
Tanvi Nagpal
Tanvi Nagpal is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute, Johns Hopkins University – School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She was a Practitioner in Residence at SAIS from 2010 – 2021, and served as the Director of the International Development Program from 2019-2021. As an active scholar practitioner, Tanvi’s research portfolio has focused on sustainable and equitable water, sanitation and solid waste service delivery; supporting communities and local governments to manage environmental resources; and generating financial support for pro-poor urban policies and programs. Prior to joining SAIS, Tanvi was the Director of Global Water Challenge where she oversaw an innovative portfolio of water and sanitation investments. Tanvi has also served as a consultant to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Hilton Foundation. For a decade, she managed community-based environmental investments and policy research focused on East Asia at the World Bank. Tanvi currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Alliance for a Healthier World, JHU. She is a non-resident scholar at the Urban Institute, and an Advisor at Athena Infonomics. Dr. Nagpal has a PhD in Political Science from Brown University and a BA in Economics from St. Stephen’s College, New Delhi.
