Please help us in welcoming a new member to the SOIL team: Gianni Gustave

Gianni joined the SOIL staff in May as our new IT Manager and we’re excited to have him working with us. In this role, Gianni will manage SOIL’s IT strategy, oversee SOIL’s technological infrastructure and provide support to the SOIL team with any IT related issues.

We are excited for our friends and supporters to get to know Gianni a bit by way of this introductory interview.

Please tell us a little bit about yourself.

I'm Gianni, an IT Manager with extensive experience in software administration and database management. Over the past eight years, I have specialized in the Salesforce realm, honing my expertise in optimizing and managing Salesforce platforms to drive organizational efficiency and success. My professional journey has equipped me with a deep understanding of technology integration, data management, and system optimization, all of which are crucial in today’s fast-paced digital landscape.

Born and raised in Haiti, I am deeply connected to the culture and people of my homeland. This connection has instilled in me a strong sense of community and resilience, qualities that I bring into my professional life. My background has provided me with a unique perspective and a diverse set of skills that enhance my approach to problem-solving and teamwork in the IT field.

As a fitness enthusiast, I find joy and balance through weight lifting and indoor cycling. These activities not only keep me physically fit but also help me maintain mental clarity and focus. During the summer, I love to explore the outdoors through mountain biking and canoeing, embracing the challenges and adventures that come with these sports. These pursuits reflect my passion for pushing boundaries and achieving personal growth, traits that translate into my professional endeavors as well.

When I’m not immersed in the world of technology or engaging in fitness activities, I cherish spending quality time with family and friends. I believe in maintaining a well-rounded lifestyle that blends professional dedication with personal well-being. This holistic approach to life and work enables me to stay motivated, innovative, and ready to tackle new challenges in the ever-evolving field of IT management.

How did you hear about SOIL’s work and what was your interest for applying for this position?

I heard about SOIL’s work through a former colleague and friend of mine. My parents, who reside in HAITI currently, have purchased SOIL’s compost and spoke highly of their experience.

What is your primary goal in this role?

As an IT manager, I render my services to help solve the day to day technical issues our office in Cap experiences and I strategize for long term solutions to solve complex challenges that pertain to our softwares.

What is the impact you see SOIL having and why do you feel that it is important?

Growing up in Haiti, I have seen first hand what happens when years of bad hygiene practices have not been addressed in larger communities. SOIL’s operation and service addresses these issues first hand, in addition to teaching community members safe practices to improve their health and safety.

Where do you hope to see Haiti in ten years?

I hope to see Haiti in ten years, led by mostly women in higher political seats, with better infrastructure and sanitation services. I hope to see channels for expats to invest in the economic flourishment of Haiti.

What do you want SOIL supporters to know about you?

I want SOIL Supporters to know that I am a passionate leader and committed to the advancement of SOIL’s mission. I have worked in the past with a Haitian non profit in the humanitarian field and my role was very hands-on. I translated, advocated on the behalf of and served in a social work capacity for my fellow Haitian compatriots.
